Not an AI tool — this is classical image processing, and anyone telling you otherwise is padding a list. Steep learning curve.

Included because the honest free path for photo work is darktable plus Upscayl, not any of the credit-gated web restorers.

The limits above were read directly from darktable's own pricing or documentation pages on 4 Aug 2026 — not taken from a roundup article. That distinction matters more than it sounds: 11 tools were rejected from this site specifically because the widely-repeated free-tier numbers did not survive contact with the vendor's own page.
